GTA 6 fronts LOVE Magazine issue 27: 4 new screenshots and the writers behind Jason and Lucia

GTA 6 fronts LOVE Magazine issue 27: 4 new screenshots and the writers behind Jason and Lucia
TL;DR

LOVE Magazine's issue 27 goes on sale on October 5, 2026 with Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos on the cover, four new official GTA 6 screenshots and an interview that names two Rockstar writers, Elizabeth Gauvey-Kern and Alexa D'Agostino, alongside narrative head Rupert Humphries and development chief Rob Nelson (RockstarINTEL, VICE). Later excerpts shared by the magazine add a fifth name, open-world

The short answer: issue 27, October 5, four screenshots, four named writers

LOVE Magazine has put Grand Theft Auto VI on the cover of its 27th issue, revealed on October 2, 2026 with four new official screenshots and the first excerpts of an interview with the game's makers. The biannual British fashion title's cover is an original Rockstar illustration of protagonists Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos. The issue reaches newsstands on October 5, 2026; RockstarINTEL and VICE both filed the reveal the same day.

Four screenshots, or two — depending on which line you read

The number is the first thing that wobbles. RockstarINTEL, which broke the story, headlined its article "4 New GTA 6 Screenshots Released Alongside Story Details", yet the article's own web address still reads "2-new-gta-6-screenshots-released-in-a-magazine" — the slug of an earlier, smaller count. VICE, publishing the same day, illustrates its write-up with four Rockstar/LOVE images inside the body plus the cover art. Four is the figure that will travel; the URL keeps the two-image version alive for anyone who checks.

The names Rockstar put on the record

RockstarINTEL reports that issue 27 carries "interviews with various writers on the game plus Rob Nelson", whom it identifies as co-studio head and head of development at Rockstar North. The published excerpt quotes four people by name: Nelson; Rupert Humphries, senior vice president of narrative; and two game writers, Elizabeth Gauvey-Kern and Alexa D'Agostino. Game Informer's issue 382, published on September 29, quoted art co-president Aaron Garbut and three other staff — Humphries is the only name the two magazines share. A fifth name, open-world writing director James Horton, appears in the magazine's own Instagram excerpts — see the update at the end of this article.

What the writers actually said

Nelson frames Rockstar's design rule as a trade-off between two kinds of truth: "Sometimes you need things to feel realistic to help with immersion, and conversely, sometimes you need to forego realism in favour of what's convenient for the player." The line is unusually candid from the studio's head of development, because it names immersion and convenience as competing goals rather than as the same one.

Humphries, who shares the GTA V writing credit with Dan Houser, calls Vice City "a pressure cooker for all kinds of insanity" and argues that "if you are going to put all this effort into creating a version of today's world, it has to be more over the top, more insane, more in your face." The team's stated focus, he adds, is "not just holding up a mirror" but making everything "satirical, larger than life, and more grotesque."

Lucia, and the claim the magazine makes for her

LOVE presents Lucia as the first playable female protagonist in Grand Theft Auto "to have her own voice, developed backstory, and a leading role in the dialogue." That reading holds for a numbered story lead: every mainline protagonist since GTA III — Claude, Tommy Vercetti, CJ, Niko Bellic, and GTA V's Michael, Franklin and Trevor — has been male, and GTA Online's customisable avatars, male or female, do not speak. The distinction the magazine draws is about voice and arc, not about playability alone.

The two writers' quotes are about how those people were built. Gauvey-Kern says Rockstar wanted both protagonists "to be vulnerable, tough, flawed, right sometimes, wrong sometimes, able to learn from each other." D'Agostino turns it into a method: "When you are focusing on writing a fully realised person with their own wants, you're going to get something perfectly imperfect — with clichés, but also undeniably real."

The pattern: three magazine covers in six weeks, two of them fashion

LOVE is the second fashion title to put GTA VI on its cover this year. Dazed ran Jason and Lucia on the cover of its autumn 2026 issue, "New Idols", revealed on August 26 and on sale internationally from September 10, with seven official screenshots laid out as a fashion editorial and a Rockstar interview inside — the first time the studio had handed a fashion magazine a batch of its stills, as GTA BOOM reported. Game Informer followed on September 29 with issue 382, a 14-page feature and 12 exclusive screenshots. LOVE's issue 27 lands on October 5. Three covers, two of them outside the games press, in six weeks.

€25, and already gone

The issue was listed for pre-order at €25 excluding shipping, and that run has sold out — the publisher now offers a "get notified" option while print copies head to newsstands on October 5, per the GTA tracking account iGrandTheftAuto.

What is still unconfirmed

Nobody has published how many pages the LOVE feature runs, whether all four stills are new to Rockstar's gallery or partly reused from the August and September batches, or what newsstand copies will cost. There is no trailer with the cover, and nothing in the reveal touches the release date: GTA VI is due on November 19, 2026, 48 days after this issue.

Our running screenshot tally

If the four LOVE images are new to the public record, they lift our running count of officially released GTA VI screenshots in 2026 to roughly 110 to 111: 65 published in June, 29 to 30 added around the late-August Extended Look, and the 12 Game Informer stills of September 29. The total is our own tally; the LOVE batch is the first of the year's drops to arrive through a fashion title rather than a games outlet.

Update — 2026-10-02: a fifth name, and Leonida's political signage

The LOVE issue carries more than the four names RockstarINTEL and VICE quoted first. The magazine's own Instagram previews, relayed by GamingBolt and the tracking account iGrandTheftAuto, add a fifth: James Horton, identified as Rockstar's writing director of open world. Horton describes the density of Leonida as a refusal of empty scenery, telling LOVE that "there's no background. There's foreground you're not paying attention to right now."

His example lands in Ambrosia, a sugar-refinery town in Leonida. GamingBolt reports that the LOVE interview points to "voting signs", "radio commercials" and a "political talk show working itself into the state" there. Rockstar Actu, covering the same issue, names the candidate on those signs: "Vote Erin Henshaw" posters, which the French site compares to GTA V's Sue Murry and Jock Cranley governor race, played out in the background of that game's story.

Erin Henshaw is not a new invention. The GTA Wiki and GTA BOOM document her as a mayoral candidate in Ambrosia whose yard signs carry the logo of Allied Crystal, the refinery the town is built around, under the slogan "the sweet lifeblood of Ambrosia". What the LOVE excerpts change is the framing: political imagery is presented as a visible layer of the open world rather than as satire that has been pulled back.

That matters because the direction had been reported the other way. Before this issue, previews had indicated lighter political satire in GTA VI than in earlier entries, a reading that fits the game's more grounded Bonnie and Clyde story. Rockstar Actu notes the LOVE issue still "aborde les références politiques" despite that expectation, alongside interviews with the two protagonists' writers, Elizabeth Gauvey-Kern and Alexa D'Agostino, and narrative chief Rupert Humphries, who tells GamingBolt the team focused on "making everything satirical, larger than life, and more grotesque".

The romance that gives the issue its theme is also what Rockstar has been asked about most. In a separate IGN interview, Rockstar North co-studio head Rob Nelson frames the Jason and Lucia relationship as central to the story and optional in play: "I have to say it feels great — if you are into it as a concept. Don't bother with it if you aren't. Up to you" (IGN). Nelson adds that the pair "will always have each other's backs", while dates, holding hands, zoos and scuba trips stay the player's call, with no penalty for skipping them.

Two different claims about the same game, and both are now on the record: a relationship that anchors the narrative but can be ignored, inside a world that keeps its political signage. The full LOVE interview reaches newsstands on October 5, 2026 — three days after this update, and 45 days before GTA VI launches on November 19.
