The Miami Heat become 'Vice City' for one night — November 18, the eve of GTA 6
The Miami HEAT will host the Milwaukee Bucks on November 18, 2026 as 'Vice City', one night before GTA VI launches on November 19. The game airs nationally on ESPN, tips off at 7 p.m. ET — 1 a.m. in Paris on November 19 — and will be played on a custom court in a uniform the team has never worn, per the HEAT and Rockstar Games announcement (via The Source and RockstarINTEL). One franchise, one name change, one night
The Miami HEAT will play an NBA regular-season game under another name. On October 2, the franchise and Rockstar Games announced "A Night in Vice City": on November 18, 2026, the HEAT host the Milwaukee Bucks at the Kaseya Center as "Vice City", one day before Grand Theft Auto VI launches on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. RockstarINTEL reports the tip-off at 7 p.m. ET — 1 a.m. in Paris on November 19, which means the game is played in Europe on the morning of launch day itself.
What the announcement actually confirms
Four elements are confirmed by the two parties. The Source relays the team's announcement: the game airs nationally on ESPN, with local coverage on Local 10 in South Florida; it is played on a "custom basketball court"; the HEAT wear "an exclusive uniform never before worn by the team"; and the arena adds "unique game-night programming and live activations". Follow-up details are promised on HEAT.com/ViceCity. RockstarINTEL quotes the team's own teaser line — "One court, one night only: The HEAT play on special hardwood built for Vice City."
Designs not yet revealed, tickets already on sale
GameSpot notes that the jersey and the court design will both be unveiled later, and that the HEAT had already opened sales for the November 18 game when the announcement went out. The team has also placed a "Vice City Collection" online through its Court Culture clothing line, including a $45 t-shirt reading "I love Vice City" and a $55 version reading "Went to Vice City and all I got was this lousy t-shirt" (GameSpot). For a campaign that started with a municipal contract, the merchandise is the first part a reader can actually buy today.

The private arena does what the county was refused
Separately from this announcement, Miami-Dade County's attempt to brand public property — the airport, the port, transit — for the GTA VI launch was parked in September after Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz and Commissioner J.C. Bermudez publicly opposed it; the sheriff's position, as the Miami Herald reported it, was that "Miami-Dade County is not Vice City". The arena escaped that political fight because it is privately operated: the sign airlifted onto its roof in September came from a deal between Basketball Properties and Take-Two, with Rockstar paying close to $1 million (IGN). Eight weeks later, the franchise is taking the step the county was refused.
What the sign cost, and what stays unknown
The only figure with a documented price is the roof sign: $975,000, according to documents reviewed by IGN, with an installation deadline of October 15 and a contractual stay running to the later of one year after installation or the HEAT's last home game of the 2026-27 season — April 11, 2027. Wider numbers stay loose. Dexerto reported Rockstar's Miami advertising spend at around $4 million in September, and GameSpot puts GTA VI pre-sales this week at close to 6 million copies and more than $570 million. No official breakdown has been published.
Three sources, three dates for a single sign
The parties and the reporters do not agree on when the "Welcome to Vice City" signage was lit. The team's October 2 announcement dates the start of the collaboration to October 1 — "the collaboration officially began October 1 with the lighting of the signage" (The Source). IGN and CBS News Miami documented the sign being airlifted onto the roof on September 22, with a switch-on reported for October 10. RockstarINTEL, writing on October 2, only describes a sign that "lights up at night", without giving a date. No official timeline has been published by Rockstar, Take-Two or Miami-Dade.
Where this fits in the launch campaign
Since August, the GTA VI campaign has produced a series of physical events: the Netflix premiere of "An Extended Look" on August 27, the "Welcome back to Vice City" sign hoisted onto the Kaseya Center roof on September 22, Game Informer's 14-page cover story on September 29 and a Lucia-and-Jason mural in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, on October 1 (RockstarINTEL). The November 18 rebrand is the first of them attached to an NBA fixture rather than to Rockstar's own media, and it lands while the county-level branding plan is still unapproved. GTA VI launches on November 19.
A basketball subplot and an unproven 'first'
GameSpot flags a sporting storyline attached to the date: HEAT star Giannis Antetokounmpo faces the Bucks, the franchise he played for his entire career until this season. The HEAT call the partnership "historic" and a "never-been-done-before event". That claim cannot be verified from the announcement alone: neither the NBA nor Rockstar has published a precedent, or a comparison with earlier GTA launches. What stays concrete for readers is the date, the opponent, the broadcaster and the ticket page.
