GTA 6 mural appears in New York — on the same Brooklyn corner Rockstar painted for GTA V in 2013
An outline of a GTA 6 mural is being painted on a wall at Wythe Avenue and North 11th Street in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, according to a photo posted to Reddit by u/Salty_Scrotum and relayed by RockstarINTEL on 1 October 2026. A GTA 6 mural is being painted in New York City. A photo posted to Reddit by the user u/Salty_Scrotum and relayed by RockstarINTEL on 1 October 2026 shows an outline on a wall at Wythe Avenue and North 11th Street, in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. In it, Lucia and Jason stand armed, framed by palm trees, beneath the stacked Grand Theft Auto logo. No colour has been applied yet.
What makes the address notable is that it is not new ground. Rockstar used that same Williamsburg corner for a GTA V mural in August 2013, eight weeks before that game launched (Stuff; GTA BOOM). Thirteen years later, the studio appears to be repeating the gesture for its next release — 49 days before GTA VI arrives on 19 November 2026.
What is actually on the wall
RockstarINTEL describes the piece as still a sketch: the stacked Grand Theft Auto logo at the centre, Jason and Lucia carrying guns, palm trees around them, and no paint applied. The outlet credits a Reddit user, u/Salty_Scrotum, who photographed the wall in progress and gave its location — Wythe and N 11th, in Williamsburg, Brooklyn (RockstarINTEL).
There is no Rockstar statement attached to the mural, no completion date and no confirmation of what it is meant to announce. As of 1 October 2026, the only established facts are the address, the partially built artwork and the identity of the person who photographed it.
The same corner, thirteen years later
In August 2013, GTA V got a hand-painted mural at North 11th Street and Wythe Avenue in Williamsburg, depicting Trevor — one of the game's three leads — running two fingers along a "cut here" tattoo around his neck. The painters, a crew called Sky High Murals, told reporters they hoped to finish the piece the same day (Stuff).
GTA BOOM's photo round-up from that month captured the Brooklyn wall alongside a second GTA V mural at Los Angeles's Hotel Figueroa (GTA BOOM). The 2026 wall sits on the same intersection that hosted the 2013 one, which turns a routine marketing installation into a documentable piece of continuity: the same franchise, the same Brooklyn block, two different generations of hardware apart.
A habit Rockstar has kept for nearly two decades
The GTA 6 wall is the latest entry in a promotional routine that goes back to 2007. That November, Rockstar told fan site Planet Grand Theft Auto that the GTA IV mural had been "created over a 31 hour, two day span at a secluded warehouse in Williamsburg, Brooklyn," with four mural artists and members of the studio's own art, camera and editing teams overseeing it from concept to completion (Planet GTA).
By 23 April 2008, building-size GTA IV murals had appeared on buildings in Los Angeles and New York, one of them hand-painted on a brick facade, promoting a game Engadget at the time projected at $400 million in first-week sales (Engadget). The formula — a New York wall, photographed by fans, before or alongside a marketing beat — was already set.
For GTA V, the cover-art mural went up on Manhattan's 7th Avenue. Kotaku reported the first sighting on 31 March 2013, noting the "Rating Pending" mark in the sketch and asking whether the wall previewed the box art (Kotaku). Rockstar unveiled the GTA V cover art on 2 April 2013, and published making-of photos of the mural — painted in Manhattan's Chelsea district — the following week (VG247).
Why this wall signals less than the last one
Historically, the New York mural opened Rockstar's promotional climax. For GTA V, the cover-art wall sat at the head of a sequence that ran into the box-art reveal, the finished mural and, on 30 April 2013, the third trailer. GTA VI's campaign has deliberately broken that rhythm: there has been no traditional narrated gameplay trailer this time, and Rockstar has leaned on a 26-minute "Extended Look" that premiered on Netflix, a Game Informer cover story and a 55-item merchandise catalogue instead.
September's verifiable real-world push was brand-led. Billboards carrying GTA VI artwork alongside Spotify's logo appeared in Los Angeles, Miami and New York on 16-17 September, and shops have begun installing large posters of their own (RockstarINTEL). The mural is the first piece of that campaign that fans found, photographed and mapped before Rockstar acknowledged it at all.
The company's relationship with street art also runs deeper than advertising. According to a Dazed deep-dive relayed by Shacknews on 27 August 2026, Rockstar brought in more than 50 real-world street artists to design the murals and urban art found around Vice City inside the game itself (Shacknews) — the same craft the Brooklyn wall is now advertising in reverse.
What is confirmed, and what isn't
Confirmed: a GTA 6 mural is being painted at Wythe Avenue and North 11th Street in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, as of 1 October 2026, and its outline shows Lucia, Jason, palm trees and the Grand Theft Auto logo (RockstarINTEL). Also documented: Rockstar's mural habit in New York, from the GTA IV timelapse campaign of 2007-2008 to the GTA V walls of 2013.
Not confirmed: any Rockstar statement about the mural, its completion date, or which announcement it accompanies. There is no announced trailer tied to it, and GTA VI's release date remains 19 November 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Fans watching the wall in Williamsburg are, for now, reading the same unfinished sketch as everyone else.
