A viral claim, quickly deflated
On August 30, influencer Gracie Bon — who commands a large following on social platforms — shared footage on X (formerly Twitter) that she presented as a 3D body scan produced for Rockstar Games' GTA 6. The posts, amplified within minutes by fan accounts, suggested she had been scanned by the studio for the game, a claim that immediately set the community abuzz.
Flagged as fake
The story did not hold for long. According to Yahoo Tech, the claim was flagged as fake on X within hours of being posted. No official statement from Rockstar or from Gracie Bon has been reported at the time of writing, and the footage's authenticity was never established. The claim also gained a new detail along the way: according to Brazilian outlet Gazeta Brasil, Gracie Bon — described there as a Panamanian influencer known for body-acceptance advocacy — said her 3D scan would serve as the basis for a plus-size female character in GTA 6 (Gazeta Brasil). None of this is confirmed: Rockstar still has not commented, the footage remains unverified, and the original posts were still flagged as fake on X. The episode shows how a single unverified claim can travel from X to several continents in under 24 hours — and pick up new embellishments at every stop.

Complex has now reconstructed the exact chronology of the claim — and it fits the misinformation pattern rather than confirming it. According to the outlet, Bon shared a screenshot on August 29 of what she said was an Instagram DM from Rockstar Games, purportedly dated May 2026, reading in part: "We've been tracking your growth and viral moments over the past few years. We would love to have your unique body inside the world of GTA6, and we want to discuss bringing your likeness in via a 3D body scan." X's crowdsourced fact-checking appended a Community Note to the post: "This is not a DM from Rockstar as Rockstar won't contact via DM's. This is a fake DM Trend editing a photo that can be easily done." Despite that flag, Bon followed up with a video she described as her actual scan session, showing motion-capture equipment and a tape measure, with a caption thanking Rockstar "for making one of my biggest dreams come true" and adding "this is for all the gorditas in the world, we are finally being included in the BIGGEST game ever." Rockstar Games has not addressed her posts, and Complex notes that GTA 6 — with dual protagonists Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval — is scheduled to launch November 19 (Complex).
