GTA 6 billboards appear in Los Angeles, Miami and New York — with Spotify's logo on them
TL;DR

On September 16, extended versions of the GTA 6 artwork posted by musicians the day before appeared on billboards in Los Angeles, Miami and New York — with Spotify's logo on the images. Spotify shared photos of the boards captioned with a single emoji, '👀'. Rockstar has confirmed nothing.

The short answer

GTA 6's artwork left Instagram on September 16. Extended versions of the illustrations musicians posted the day before were spotted on billboards in Los Angeles, Miami and New York City, and this time the images carry a third party's brand: Spotify's logo. The streaming service published photographs of the boards itself, captioned with a single pair of eyes (RockstarINTEL). Rockstar Games has announced nothing.

What went up, and where

RockstarINTEL, which catalogued the drop image by image, reports that extensions of the pieces shared on September 15 now occupy physical advertising space in three American cities. It frames the move as a campaign first: the second time a third party has promoted the game, after YouTube, which put Trailer 2 on a Times Square screen (RockstarINTEL).

The distinction matters. Until now the music story travelled through the artists' own accounts — ten names, six distinct illustrations, no statement from the studio (GTA BOOM; Video Games Chronicle). A billboard is a different instrument: it is bought, placed and paid for, which means a company outside Rockstar and Take-Two chose to share the space.

Why Spotify is on a GTA 6 billboard

Per RockstarINTEL, the placement is Spotify-branded, and the service is no stranger to the game's music. Weeks earlier it assembled Grand Theft Auto Radio, an official playlist built from the tracks confirmed by the 26-minute Extended Look — the broadcast that sent Captain & Tennille's 1977 ballad up 130,730% in global streams (RockstarINTEL).

The open question is whether a playlist is the shape of what comes next. RockstarINTEL raises the possibility that the full song list could be revealed through Spotify rather than a trailer or a press release, which would suit a platform that routinely buys outdoor space for its own playlists. Speculation, for now.

The names, and the silence

RockstarINTEL counts the collaboration as settled for Travis Scott, Morgan Wallen, Future (posting from Freebandz), CA7RIEL & Paco Amoroso, Rauw Alejandro and Keith Richards. That is the outlet's count, not the studio's.

Across ten posts and six images, neither Rockstar nor Take-Two has named an artist, a station, a show or a song. The most explicit detail any act published remains Scott's caption — "Phase 1", a promise to return to gaming with "a lot of dancing", and initials most outlets line up with Jack of Hearts, the Vice City strip club seen in the Extended Look (GTA BOOM; Metro). Metro prints a standing list of ten "confirmed" musicians under the artwork; none of those pieces quotes the publisher (Metro).

A campaign that is now physical

The billboards join a launch push that has left the screen. Miami Beach commissioners voted 4-3 to negotiate a Rockstar deal worth roughly $3–4 million over beach furniture branding; the City of Miami has an ordinance for six downtown banners at $202,000 each, running October 15 to December 31, still awaiting a second reading; and a private arrangement between the Heat's Basketball Properties and Take-Two is putting a rooftop sign reading "Welcome to Vice City (VI)" on the Kaseya Center, reportedly lifted in by helicopter and contracted to stay until 2028 (GTA BOOM).

Compare with 2013. Grand Theft Auto V's music was teased through the game's own trailers and site, its score albums arriving after release and its stations a mystery until players heard them. Ten years on, that work is done by artist accounts, a streaming platform's billboards, and city councils arguing in public.

Take-Two holds its annual shareholder meeting on September 17, webcast audio-only, with no game news promised. GTA VI remains set for November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with no PC version announced.

Update — IGN: Spotify, a partner rather than a sponsor

The story reached the mainstream trade press within a day, and IGN's write-up on September 17 adds both a correction of sorts and a wider set of readings (IGN).

On the facts, IGN reports that Spotify has "begun putting up billboards in Los Angeles and New York" showing the artwork the musicians released the day before — two cities, not the three RockstarINTEL catalogued, which leaves Miami as the one placement only the first report claims (IGN; RockstarINTEL). Its own illustration of the rollout is a screenshot of a tweet showing further boards, and it treats the branding itself as the announcement: a streaming service does not put its logo on a game's artwork by accident.

What IGN does well is widen the field of what the partnership could actually be. It lists three shapes, none of them confirmed. The first is exclusive music, the model Rockstar already used inside GTA Online when Dr. Dre's music-recovery storyline arrived with The Contract. The second is far more radical — a form of Spotify integration in GTA 6, letting players run their own playlists in-game; IGN calls that hard to picture given how much Rockstar spends curating its own radio stations, but stops short of ruling it out. The third is simply that the songs already verified by the trailers and the names from the Instagram drop end up on one official playlist, which is what the service has already assembled once under the name Grand Theft Auto Radio (IGN; RockstarINTEL).

The comparison IGN reaches for is the previous partner: Rockstar pitched Netflix on debuting GTA 6's gameplay trailer, and the premiere became the most-watched item on the platform during its opening week — the same kind of arrangement, with a different company (IGN).

Its timing argument is the one worth keeping: from Saturday, September 19, GTA VI is exactly two months away, and IGN expects Rockstar to stop teasing and say what it is doing with Spotify before the week is out (IGN). That is a prediction, not a fact — and, as of September 17, the studio had still named no artist, no station and no song.
