GTA 6 fridge detail loses to Uncharted 4 โ€” even the 'detail maniac' slips

The fridge that started a debate

A short clip is making the rounds on social media this weekend, and it is not flattering for Rockstar. In the official "An Extended Look" gameplay footage, Jason opens the fridge in the couple's apartment and takes out a beer โ€” but the bottle simply pops into his hand, with no grab animation. Side-by-side comparisons against Uncharted 4 (2016) and Sleeping Dogs (2012), where the same gesture is fully animated, have been circulating widely on TikTok, YouTube and X (YouTube, TikTok, X).

3DM calls it: the detail maniac slipped

Chinese outlet 3DM picked up the trend and did not sugarcoat it: "the detail maniac lost" (็ป†่Š‚็‹‚้ญ”็ซŸ็„ถ่พ“ไบ†). The irony was not lost on the site, which hours earlier had praised Rockstar as the industry's "detail maniac" after the 26-minute gameplay premiere (3DM). 3DM also points out the budget contrast: GTA 6 reportedly cost more than $2 billion to produce (a figure that remains unconfirmed), while Uncharted 4 was made for roughly $60 million and Sleeping Dogs for $30 million. For 3DM, the episode is striking precisely because Rockstar's Red Dead Redemption 2 was the game everyone used as a detail benchmark โ€” and it never lost these comparisons (3DM).

The bigger picture

It is worth putting the fridge clip in context. The Extended Look was otherwise celebrated for its density of detail: handcrafted rooms, more than 600,000 NPC animations, a wanted system that tracks your face, your clothes and your vehicle. Against that backdrop, the missing bottle grab looks less like negligence than prioritization โ€” Rockstar pours its craft into systemic, world-scale detail, while some micro-interactions remain simpler than in a 2012 game. Fans are divided: some shrug and note that few games even let you open a fridge in the first place, while others see it as proof that not every corner of the game received the same love (3DM).

Players have also flagged a second observation from the same footage: when Jason turns left while driving, he does not appear to rotate the steering wheel (3DM). Like the fridge clip, it is a small thing โ€” but for a studio whose reputation rests on small things, every frame is fair game.

What to make of it

None of this changes the release plan: GTA 6 launches on November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. But the episode is a useful reality check in both directions. For skeptics, it is evidence that Rockstar, like everyone else, has limits. For defenders, it is proof of the standard the studio set for itself: a beer bottle animation makes the news because the bar is so high. Either way, the "detail maniac" label now comes with a footnote.
