GTA 6: IGN's full Rob Nelson interview is out — the details that weren't in August
TL;DR

Per IGN's full Rob Nelson interview, published 7 October 2026 from a July demo session, GTA 6 adds an unplanned encounter with a man in a dumpster — give him pills, return for legal advice, or climb in — and shows Jason naked in the shower. Nelson confirms that arrest is still 'Busted' plus a restart, and that Red Dead Redemption 2-style town development is not in the game.

The short answer

IGN published the complete transcript of its Rockstar North interview on 7 October 2026 — the conversation Rachel Weber recorded in Edinburgh in July, with head of development and co-studio head Rob Nelson playing GTA 6 for roughly 30 minutes. The outlet had already run the highlights on 27 August. The unedited version adds a short list of things that first pass left out: a man Lucia meets inside a dumpster, Jason shown naked in the shower, what happens when you are arrested, and one mechanic from Red Dead Redemption 2 that GTA 6 deliberately drops.

What was actually new

RockstarINTEL covered the transcript on 7 October under the headline "New GTA 6 Details Reveal More Gameplay Systems, Naked Showers Confirmed". IGN's own introduction is more careful: the headline topics were already covered in August, Weber writes, and the full transcript is being published because the unedited conversation — which jumps around while the game is being played — turned out to be worth reading in full. That distinction matters. The romance system, the Criminal Profile, the six-star wanted system, the WAINK car scanner, the physical phone in the character's hand and the money-gated story missions have all been on the record for six weeks. What follows is only what the new text adds.

A dumpster, and an impound lot

Halfway through the demo, IGN's transcript records an unplanned encounter between Lucia and a man living in a dumpster. "You can give this guy in the dumpster pills, or choose not to," Nelson says. "You can come back and see him and he gives you legal advice. You can get in the dumpster with him!" (IGN). Earlier, Jason had spontaneously suggested robbing a police impound lot as the couple drove past it — a line Nelson says he had never heard himself: "I was pleasantly surprised to hear Jason call out the impound lot and thought, 'Oh, we can do it.'" These are the clearest illustrations yet of the emergent design Rockstar keeps promising, where, in Nelson's words, "the world will act upon you as well as you acting upon the world".

Naked Jason, and what Rockstar will not say

The moment RockstarINTEL built its headline on is real. When Nelson switched characters during the demo, IGN's transcript describes Jason as "naked" in the shower — "Oh, or you can switch and Jason's in the shower!" The scene is domestic rather than sexual, and nothing in the transcript confirms that players can initiate sexual content; Rockstar has still not addressed that question publicly. The detail does line up with the "Nudity" and "Strong Sexual Content" descriptors already published on GTA 6's ESRB and PEGI listings, and it is the first time an official demo has shown a protagonist undressed in an ordinary safehouse moment. The transcript also notes that Jason wears his hair longer than in the trailer.

Busted, and the Adrenaline escape

Two smaller answers have been missing from every preview so far. On arrest, Nelson is unambiguous: "If either of you gets arrested, it's just 'Busted,' then it's a restart, a respawn. As with previous games." That confirms GTA 6 keeps the series' traditional fail state rather than building a jail, court or bail system around the wanted mechanic. Separately, during a chase that goes wrong, a resource appears that Rockstar has never described in any published material: "Now I have Adrenaline, which is helpful to get out of here." The transcript does not say how Adrenaline is earned, and no trailer or Newswire post has mentioned it.

What GTA 6 will not do

Asked whether the game includes anything like Red Dead Redemption 2's changing towns — the lumber yard, the sons building their father's house — Nelson is direct: "That's not included as much with this game. It's just not as big a part of the story. But you can rob pretty much anything." The answer rules out one of the ambient systems Red Dead Redemption 2 was most praised for, and it appears to be the first time Rockstar has addressed it. The same exchange settles the shape of the open world: Nelson calls GTA 6 a game "you can play in very different ways", one you can load up and simply "exist" in, the way many players revisited Red Dead Redemption 2 years after finishing it.

The passenger seat, and getaways that play like missions

The full transcript also spells out how the couple shares a car when they are not on a mission. Rockstar confirms that "the other one" can take the wheel while you ride along and listen to the radio, and that during a chase you can handle the shooting from the passenger seat (VICE). The same session describes how an ordinary robbery can escalate into an escape that looks handcrafted: pursuers whose blown tyres send them crashing into the cars behind them, or a getaway that ends with your partner beating a train at the last second to cut the chase off. "Those moments can feel like you're playing a scripted mission, which is totally new for us," Nelson told IGN (Dexerto). It is the sharpest illustration of the goal Rockstar repeats throughout the interview — blurring the line between open-world crime and story missions.

What the transcript still doesn't answer

Four things remain open. There is no mention of a PC version, which Rockstar has still not announced. Nothing in the transcript says whether the shower scene is a one-off story beat or part of a wider nudity system. GTA Online and any multiplayer plans are absent from the conversation entirely. And the demo itself was a July build — roughly four months before the 19 November 2026 release — so any of this can still change. Everything above comes from a single source: Rob Nelson, speaking to IGN in July, published unedited on 7 October 2026. Rockstar and Take-Two have issued no statement about the transcript.
