GTA 6 launch trailer is out: 90 seconds, captured on PS5, 35 days before release
Rockstar released the GTA 6 launch trailer on October 15, 2026: 90 seconds, captured on a PlayStation 5, and 35 days before the November 19 launch — against 19 days for GTA V in 2013 and 8 days for Red Dead Redemption 2 in 2018 (VGC; IGN; PlayStation Blog). The short answer
GTA VI has a launch trailer. Rockstar published it on October 15, 2026: a 90-second video, which the studio says was captured on a PlayStation 5, released five weeks before the game reaches PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19 (VGC; Rockstar Actu).
It is the fourth video of a campaign that opened with Trailer 1 on December 4, 2023 and continued with Trailer 2 on May 6, 2025 (Take-Two), and the first to land since the Extended Look in August. VGC notes the trailer details the game's plot and introduces Jason and Lucia to newcomers, and Rockstar's own description frames it as a story pitch rather than a systems demo: "Vice City, USA. Jason and Lucia have always known the deck is stacked against them. But when an easy score goes wrong, they find themselves on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America" (Rockstar, via VGC).
The number that sets this one apart: 35
Rockstar's previous two flagship launches kept the final trailer much closer to the finish line. GTA V's last pre-launch trailer went live on August 29, 2013, nineteen days before the September 17 release — IGN framed it at the time as "the last trailer that we'll be given before the game releases in just 19 days". Red Dead Redemption 2's launch trailer arrived on October 18, 2018, eight days before its October 26 release (PlayStation Blog; IGN).
Applied to November 19, 2026, those two gaps pointed at November 11 or 12. This trailer landed on October 15 — 35 days out, roughly four weeks earlier than the pattern suggested and 16 days earlier than GTA V's window, 27 days earlier than Red Dead 2's.
That means a correction to our own work. A timeline published on this site on September 27 projected the launch trailer for mid-November, extrapolated from exactly those two precedents. The precedents were real; the projection was never a promise, and Rockstar has just broken it. Anyone reading "launch trailer in November" here should treat the date as void.
What the 90 seconds actually show
Eurogamer's write-up lists the pieces viewers have latched onto: the trailer opens on a shot of The Keys, a region of Leonida the campaign had left almost untouched; heists run through the middle, one of them featuring a helicopter getaway that appears to go wrong; and there is an intimate shower scene between Jason and Lucia, "seemingly confirming the rumoured sex scenes and likely full nudity".
The same report flags two narrative details that are easy to miss. Lucia appears to be wearing an ankle tag, which points to her being out on parole, and Jason takes a reverse-charge phone call early in the trailer — a setup that suggests Lucia calling from jail (Eurogamer). PC Gamer's read of the whole thing is that it is deliberately more restrained than earlier GTA VI trailers: "a greater emphasis on character and narrative than the chaos of the previous games".

"A PlayStation 5" — but which one?
Every outlet agrees the footage carries a PS5 label, and Push Square goes as far as saying PlayStation branding is "all over this video", which it reads as evidence that "Sony's marketing agreement runs deep with this game". The precision stops there. According to VGC, Rockstar states the trailer was "captured entirely on a PlayStation 5" but does not say whether that means the base console or the PS5 Pro.
That gap matters because Rockstar closed it last time. Trailer 2, in May 2025, ended on the same "Captured on PS5" line, after which the studio explicitly confirmed the footage was captured entirely in-game from a PlayStation 5 — which Push Square and IGN both read as the standard console. French outlet Rockstar Actu is more specific than Rockstar itself this time, writing that the launch trailer was captured on a "standard PS5" and mentioning a "best on PS5" sticker. The same article states the standard PS5 version of the game should run at 2K upscaled to 4K; no other outlet repeats that figure, and Rockstar has not confirmed it. Treat it as unverified for now.
The first trailer in this campaign scored by the album
The music is a new Justice track, "Flower in a Hurricane", featuring Tame Impala, SZA and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard (VGC; PC Gamer). Justice composed the game's original score, and the single will appear on Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album (VGC; Push Square). By our running count, that makes nine of the record's 34 tracks named since the campaign began.
It is also a visible shift in how Rockstar sells the game. Trailer 1 used Tom Petty's "Love Is a Long Road" and Trailer 2 used The Pointer Sisters' "Hot Together" — both licensed, both decades old (PC Gamer). The launch trailer instead leans on music made for GTA VI, which turns the trailer into a trailer for the soundtrack as well.
Two images, and a release date that held
Alongside the video, Rockstar published new artwork titled "Jason and Lucia: Lock and Load" — the trailer's thumbnail, also found inside one of the album's vinyl pressings, released in logo and logo-less versions and in several aspect ratios — plus a new in-game screenshot from the game's music page showing a floatplane from Brian Heder's Boat Works & Marina flying above the Grassrivers at sunset (RockstarINTEL).
Nothing about the date moved: November 19, 2026, on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The PC version still has no announced release date, and VGC reports it is expected before the end of March 2027. Eurogamer also notes the trailer's timing, arriving during Rockstar's employment tribunal in Glasgow and a week after leaked gameplay footage resurfaced from the hacker known as Cyberleek.
Four videos, where Red Dead 2 got six
The campaign is thinner than Rockstar's own past ones, and that is what makes a 35-day gap possible. DualShockers counts four major GTA VI videos to date — Trailer 1, Trailer 2, August's 26-minute Extended Look and this launch trailer — against the six major promotional videos Red Dead Redemption 2 received before its October 26, 2018 release. GTA IV had four major trailers plus numerous shorter teasers, and GTA V paired its trailers with character spotlights and dedicated gameplay videos.
Put differently, the four GTA VI videos are spread over 1,046 days, from Trailer 1 on December 4, 2023 to the launch trailer on October 15, 2026. Rockstar's marketing cycle for this game runs 1,081 days end to end, which is already the longest in the studio's history — the material has simply been released in fewer, larger pieces.
"Launch trailer" may not mean the last one
DualShockers also points out that Rockstar has a habit of shipping footage at the last minute, and does not rule out another short video before November 19. The precedent is the studio's own: Red Dead Redemption 2's launch trailer arrived eight days before release (PlayStation Blog; IGN), and GTA IV added teasers only days before launch. Calling this one the launch trailer 35 days out does not lock the campaign closed.
Digital Foundry's write-up adds two details visible on the upload itself: the video carries PlayStation branding and an M for Mature rating, and the 90 seconds mix new scenes with shots already seen in earlier trailers. The outlet says it will publish its full technical read in an upcoming DF Direct, so no resolution or frame rate measurement of this trailer exists yet — Digital Foundry's reference analysis was of the August Extended Look, not of this video.
One music detail is settled, per Digital Foundry: the album is already available for pre-order on CD and vinyl and will stream from November 19, while Rockstar has still given no date for the separate original score album (DualShockers).
