GTA 6's loading screens may already be public — fans think Rockstar's artwork is the giveaway

The theory: Rockstar's artwork is a loading screen in disguise

Some GTA 6 fans believe Rockstar has been showing off the game's loading screens for months without anyone noticing. As reported by TechRadar and picked up by Korean outlet Digital Today, a Reddit user collected several pieces of official artwork — the promotional images built around Lucia and Jason — and asked a simple question: hasn't Rockstar been secretly revealing GTA 6's loading screens all along?

The post spread quickly through the GTA 6 community. Other players piled in with agreement, pointing at the series' habits. "Loading screens have always been this kind of concept art," one fan wrote, "and some of these are very likely to be used as loading screens." The argument is easy to follow: the artwork Rockstar has released through trailers, the official website and assorted promotional images is exactly the style the series has used to fill the gaps between missions and sessions.

The precedent: concept art has always been the loading screen

That instinct is grounded in history. In previous GTA games, the loading screens were character-focused artworks — moody, painterly shots of the protagonists and their cities. Grand Theft Auto V leaned heavily on this approach, and fans see the same visual language in the official GTA 6 material. Since Rockstar has drip-fed its visuals through trailers and key art rather than screenshots from inside the game, the theory goes, some of that material was always destined for in-game use.

It is a plausible read. It is also, for now, purely speculative. Rockstar has not officially confirmed that any of these images will appear as loading screens — Digital Today is careful to note that no such confirmation exists.

The counterweight: an SSD that makes loading 'almost instant'

The other side of the debate asks whether GTA 6 will even have loading screens worth talking about. PlayStation's blog has described the game as using the PS5's ultra-fast SSD to pull in Leonida's vast world "almost instantly." For some players, that means the classic loading screen could become rare enough to disappear from everyday play.

Others push back, and the community has settled on a useful distinction: near-instant loading is not the same thing as no loading at all. An open world of GTA 6's scale still needs transitions — entering interiors, starting missions, respawning, fast travel. Fans point out that even with next-generation storage, some kind of interstitial screen is likely to remain, even if it flashes by in a second.

What's confirmed — and what isn't

For the record: GTA 6 launches November 19 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and the 26-minute Extended Look premiered on Netflix on August 27, giving fans their closest look yet at the game's scale, interface and pacing. What remains unconfirmed is whether any of the artwork already published will greet players between sessions on launch day.

The odds are decent, based on series tradition alone. But until Rockstar says so, the "secret loading screen" theory is exactly that — a theory.
