The 26-minute Extended Look broadcast on Netflix has given fans a lot to analyse — and one of the oldest GTA 6 theories is back in the spotlight. This time, the question is no longer whether the map will be bigger than GTA V's (Rockstar already confirmed it will dwarf Red Dead Redemption 2's world), but whether Leonida hides a second location entirely, in the tradition of Rockstar's story-driven detours (GAMINGbible).
A well-established Rockstar habit
The pattern is documented. In Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, a mission takes CJ to Liberty City. In GTA 5, the prologue unfolds in snowy North Yankton. And in Red Dead Redemption 2, Arthur Morgan is shipwrecked on Guarma, a Caribbean island that is strictly a story location rather than an open-world section. As one Reddit user put it in a thread reopened on r/GTA6: "In most of the games by Rockstar, there has been at least one mission set in a city completely separate from the map" (Reddit).
Where fans think the second map could be
Geography is doing most of the work in the speculation. Since Leonida is the GTA version of Florida, several natural candidates sit close to Vice City: Cuba, Hawaii, Bermuda, or Haiti and the Dominican Republic — "I think there is definitely an island we travel to. I just don't see them not doing that," one player wrote. Another suggested a more nostalgic twist: a mission set in the same place but back in time, a brief return to the Vice City of the 1980s (Reddit).
The real reason: Jason's double identity
The most developed part of the theory is narrative. For years, a segment of the community has believed that one of the two protagonists lives a second life — as an undercover cop or a rival gang member. The Extended Look reportedly tied Lucia to a cartel family, which fans read as ruling her out. Attention has therefore shifted to Jason, the more restrained and calculated of the pair, the one who constantly reins in Lucia's impulsiveness. According to the theory, his caution could be there to protect a team he keeps hidden from her — and a second location would give him a chance to reconnect with those characters deep into the story (GAMINGbible).
An old theory that keeps gaining traction
GAMINGbible notes that this theory has been circulating for about three years, and that it looks "more probable than ever" as the release approaches. It fits the studio's confirmed habit of recycling its own best ideas — the honor system borrowed from Red Dead Redemption 2 being the most recent example.
What to keep in mind
Everything here is speculation. Rockstar has not commented on the existence of a second map, on Cuba or Hawaii, or on any twist involving Jason's identity. The game is scheduled for November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and GTA VI News will treat any confirmation — or denial — as it arrives.
