GTA 6 gets its own theater at Tokyo Game Show 2026: a 300-inch screen, floor haptics and a free T-shirt
Tokyo Game Show 2026 (September 17-21) will host a dedicated GTA 6 theater inside the PlayStation booth, screening Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look on a 300-inch screen with floor haptics that rumble in sync with the footage. Attendees who watch the full screening get a free GTA 6 | PlayStation T-shirt. GTA 6 is not playable at the show, and there is no Rockstar or Take-Two booth — the setup
Yes — and the game is not even playable
Sony is giving Grand Theft Auto VI its own theater at Tokyo Game Show 2026. From September 17 to 21, the PlayStation booth will run a dedicated "Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look" screening room where visitors watch Rockstar's 27-minute presentation on a 300-inch screen — roughly 7.6 metres of diagonal — while floor haptics rumble in sync with the images and the soundtrack (GTA BOOM; GinjFo).
The reward for sitting through the whole thing in person is a co-branded "Grand Theft Auto VI | PlayStation" T-shirt, handed out during the show while stocks last. Attendees who finish the screening walk away with one; the shirt has already been photographed on the show floor (GTA BOOM; X).
The catch is that nothing on that screen is new. Sony is not showing fresh gameplay, and GTA 6 will not be playable on the booth's demo stations. The footage is the same Extended Look Rockstar published on August 27 and streamed on Netflix — the one captured entirely on PlayStation 5 — now projected at cinema scale with a physical rumble under the audience's feet (GinjFo).
Sony's booth, not Rockstar's
The notable detail is who is hosting. There is no Rockstar Games booth and no standalone Take-Two Interactive presence at Tokyo Game Show 2026. The theater belongs to Sony Interactive Entertainment and sits alongside the company's own playable line-up, which includes Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, Final Fantasy VII Revelation, Marvel's Wolverine and Ace Combat 8 (GTA BOOM).
In other words, the biggest show on PlayStation's home-market stand is a third-party multiplatform release that happens to have been marketed like an exclusive since the reveal. Sony has spent the past weeks doing the promotional work itself: GTA 6 went up on Tokyo billboards, received two limited-edition DualSense controllers in Vice City Black and White, and was folded into the "It Happens on PS5" campaign (GTA BOOM).
For a franchise that used to be associated with a rival platform in its PlayStation 2 years, the symmetry is hard to miss. GTA 6 launches simultaneously on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, 2026 — but a visitor walking the Tokyo show floor this month could be forgiven for thinking otherwise.
Why a trailer screening is worth reporting
The theater is a small operation with an outsized signal. Rockstar and Take-Two have scheduled nothing at Tokyo Game Show, yet GTA 6 will still dominate a PlayStation booth built around it. It is the same playbook Nintendo used for major third-party titles at its own events: let a partner's hardware stand become the marketing venue, and let the game's name do the work.
There is also a practical reason for Sony to keep the material familiar. A 300-inch re-screening of footage players have already dissected frame by frame — with haptics added, and a free shirt as the incentive — draws a crowd without revealing a single new mechanic, a week after the community finished cataloguing the Extended Look shot by shot.
Between now and November 19, expect more of this: promotional events that sell proximity to the game rather than new information about it. The countdown clocks, the DualSense pre-orders and the signage deals in Miami are all part of the same campaign.
