Rockstar officially backs NoPixel V: GTA roleplay arrives on the Rockstar Games Launcher on September 8
Rockstar makes its support official
On September 1, Rockstar Games published a Newswire post officially backing NoPixel, the most watched GTA roleplay server in the world. The next iteration of the server, nopixel V, arrives in closed beta on September 8 — and for the first time, invited players will access the experience directly through the Rockstar Games Launcher, no separate tool required.
"nopixel have continually pushed the boundaries of GTA Roleplay through character immersion, modifications to the GTAV map, and a creative community of dedicated storytellers," Rockstar writes, "with the official announcement of the nopixel V closed beta arriving on September 8 where invited players will access the experience through the Rockstar Games Launcher."
The announcement is the culmination of a collaboration that NoPixel founder Koil first revealed in mid-August on the server's Discord. Described as "a full rebuild of NoPixel," the 5.0 version opens to an invite-only allowlist of a few hundred content creators and established roleplayers, rolled out in phases. Koil was explicit that the first wave of invites is only the beginning: access will expand over time, and neither NoPixel Public nor NoPixel 4.0 is going anywhere in the meantime — he framed the relaunch as "a genuine reset and a fresh start for the NoPixel whitelist." A launch trailer premiered on nopixel.net on September 1, one week ahead of the beta.
A rebuilt Los Santos
According to Rockstar, nopixel V comes with refreshed visuals, new ways to make a living and smarter, more reactive pedestrians. The character customization has been reworked to give roleplayers more ways than ever to create avatars "as unique as their backstories." Los Santos itself gets a facelift, headlined by the new Pixel Hotel & Casino and a six-block revamp of Cypress Flats — with the Mile High Club, the famously unfinished downtown tower, finally completed.
Rewards for every GTA Online player
Even players who never set foot on a roleplay server get something out of the launch. From September 8 through 30, watching GTA roleplay streamers play nopixel V on Twitch earns GTA$1,500,000 and the Burger Shot Tracksuit in the vanilla version of GTA Online, on console and PC alike. It is a classic Rockstar crossover: turning its biggest community-driven servers into promotional content for the base game.
Why it matters for GTA 6
The move extends a strategy Rockstar has been building for years. In 2023, the studio acquired Cfx.re, the team behind FiveM — the multiplayer framework that powers NoPixel and thousands of other roleplay servers. Bringing nopixel V into its own launcher is the most visible step yet toward an official, sanctioned roleplay ecosystem, and it lands a little over two months before GTA 6's release on November 19.
Rockstar also promises announcements on improvements including a new PC in-game overlay, upcoming events and expanded access to nopixel V's world. Tex2, the community figure who first relayed the beta news, suggested on X that the overlay could reintroduce text chat into GTA Online and other titles — an intriguing but unconfirmed possibility. For now, the date to remember is simple: September 8 for the beta, and everything else to follow.
