Rainbow Six Siege boss: players who stay through GTA 6's launch will be 'served like kings and queens'
Rainbow Six Siege's creative director Joshua Mills says his studio expects every game to 'take a hit' when GTA 6 launches on November 19, and that player numbers will recover afterwards. Rather than going quiet, Ubisoft is planning Season Four of Siege in the same window, with unannounced content held back to reward players who keep playing. Unlike Fable, Squadron 42 or No Rest for the Wicked, a l
No, Ubisoft is not clearing the calendar
Rainbow Six Siege will still be shipping new content when Grand Theft Auto VI arrives on November 19, 2026 β and the studio's new creative director says the players who stay will be paid for their loyalty. Asked about GTA 6 during an appearance on The Game Business, Joshua Mills laid out his rule for the launch window: "Our golden rule is to serve the players who stay like kings and queens." Concretely, that means Season Four of Rainbow Six Siege landing right around the same period, with unannounced content held back for it (VGC; Dexerto).
"You're going to take a hit"
Mills was not asked to be diplomatic, and did not try to be. The question was whether a studio running an eleven-year-old tactical shooter had contingency plans for a release that is expected to pull players out of every service game on the market. His answer:
> "We've got a massive launch coming with GTA. It doesn't matter what genre you're in β you're going to take a hit when that drops. People are going to play it, and then they'll come back. Heck, all of us are going to play it."
The rest of his reasoning is about internal management as much as game design. Mills told The Game Business that the priority is to keep expectations "smart" so that the team and Ubisoft's headquarters stay aligned: if the developers watch the player counter dip, "they can get anxious, but it's generally temporary" (VGC). The content plan follows from that reading β "we don't go on vacation just because a competitor is swelling the market. We double down and reward those spending their valuable time with us" (Dexerto).
Season Four lands in the same window
That promise has a schedule attached. Mills confirmed the next seasonal drop is timed for the GTA 6 launch window rather than pushed away from it: "Funnily enough, Season Four will drop right around that time. That shifts up the game in different ways. We actually have some unannounced surprises held back to make a splash" (VGC).
It is a striking stance given who is saying it. Mills took over as Rainbow Six Siege's creative director earlier in 2026, succeeding Alexander Karpazis after the Siege X overhaul, and β as Dexerto frames it β inherited a team worn out by that relaunch and then hit by a December 2025 security breach that took the game offline over the holidays.
The option Siege does not have
For most of 2026, the industry's answer to GTA 6 has been distance. Cloud Imperium pushed Squadron 42 to Q2 2027 explicitly because of Rockstar's release; Playground Games moved Fable to February 2027; Moon Studios pulled No Rest for the Wicked out of October and into March 2027. Those are games with a single launch moment and one shot at coverage.
A live-service shooter is the opposite case. Siege has an esports circuit, a seasonal calendar, a battle pass economy and a decade of accumulated progression β none of which can be redeployed to a quieter month. The game itself cannot move, only the content around it, which turns November 19 into a date to program against rather than dodge. That is the broader read of Mills's comments: expect the dip, brief the team, and make sure the players who stay have a reason to.
What to watch
Siege's Season Four date is the concrete item β if Ubisoft really lands it inside GTA 6's launch week, it becomes the first live-service game to publicly schedule against the launch instead of around it.
GTA VI launches on November 19, 2026 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with Jason and Lucia as protagonists and still no PC version announced.
