Real GTA 6 cars are on Miami's streets — six builds, zero official confirmation

Real GTA 6 cars are on Miami's streets — six builds, zero official confirmation
TL;DR

Up to six real cars dressed as GTA VI vehicles — a Testarossa as the Grotti Cheetah (1995), a Corvette C8 as the Coquette D10, a Huracán in Vice Beach Police livery — have been filmed in Miami, Rockstar Actu reported on October 16 and IGN echoed the same day. Rockstar has confirmed none of it, with the launch still set for November 19, 2026.

What was actually spotted

As many as six cars dressed to look like Grand Theft Auto VI vehicles have been filmed and photographed in Miami ahead of the game's November 19, 2026 release, the French outlet Rockstar Actu reported on October 16. The footage originated with Instagram user andrewblakeames and was relayed on X by @videotech and @WillMacGTA, according to TwistedVoxel. The vehicles carry Leonida licence plates, and the assembly was seen at a car meet in Key Biscayne as well as on Miami roads, per Rockstar Actu.

What Rockstar has confirmed: nothing

None of the six builds has been acknowledged by Rockstar Games, and no official account has published a list of them. News9Live wrote on October 16 that "there is no official information if Rockstar Games is actually running a marketing campaign using real-life cars", warning the circulating images could show "fan-made cars, private promotional vehicles or content without clear provenance" — a genuine possibility given how complete the car-modding scene is around the series.

That gap stands out because the rest of the Miami campaign is documented. Axios reported on October 15 that a large "Welcome to Vice City" sign had gone up on the Kaseya Center, with GTA-branded concession umbrellas placed on Miami Beach, per News9Live. The same outlet notes Rockstar's partnership with Wynwood Walls — ten murals using official artwork and free admission for Miami-Dade residents through 2028 — and a free Little Haiti block party co-funded with BAYO and artist Michaël Brun.

IGN calls it a Rockstar operation — still without a statement

The story reached the anglophone mainstream on October 16: IGN published "Rockstar Mods Real Life Vehicles to Look Like GTA 6 Cars Before Driving Them Through Miami" at 09:13 UTC, credited to Kirk McKeand, describing modified vehicles driving "around in a tight convoy" with a VCPD-liveried Lamborghini and a McLaren dressed as a Progen Emerus. IGN lists the same in-game cars as Rockstar Actu — Cheetah, Coquette D10, Tempesta, Manana and Emerus — and attributes the showcase to the developer itself. No Rockstar statement is quoted anywhere in the piece, so that framing is the outlet's, not the studio's.

IGN also relays the day's most specific new scene. Miami local outlet Only in Dade filmed several of the cars parked at a gas station while the Goodyear blimp, carrying its own GTA 6 livery, hovered in the distance — putting the road convoy and the airship in a single frame. That shot lands 34 days before the November 19, 2026 launch, and four days after the blimp left Akron, Ohio, for Pompano Beach, Florida.

Six cars, six in-game names

Rockstar Actu pairs each real vehicle with the GTA VI car it mimics:

  • Ferrari Testarossa → Grotti Cheetah (1995) — renamed from "Grotti Cheetah Classique" in the previous game. The prancing horse has been swapped for Grotti's prancing rabbit, the Ferrari red replaced by a pink-to-blue gradient, and the car wears a Leonida plate.
  • Chevrolet Corvette C8 → Invetero Coquette D10 — repainted in a blue, mauve and pink camouflage, again with a Leonida plate.
  • Cadillac Eldorado → Albany Manana — chrome "Albany" and "Manana" lettering at the rear, a Vice City plate in a holder bearing the Rockstar Games and GTA VI logos, and oversized wheels in the style of GTA Online's Faction Custom Donk.
  • Lamborghini Huracán → a Pegassi police car — Vice Beach Police decals, a working roof light bar and red underglow.
  • McLaren Senna → Progen Emerus — the Progen badge appears on the hood and even on the stitching of the seat headrests, Rockstar Actu notes.
  • Chevrolet Monte Carlo → Albany Buccaneer — green paint, a Grove Street-style decal, a zebra-print interior and chrome "Buccaneer" lettering above the rear bumper.

One of these six doubles as a purchase decision. Rockstar Actu states the Grotti Cheetah (1995) is exclusive to the Ultimate Edition of GTA VI, which matches the vehicle and shop exclusives already documented for that tier at $99.99 against $79.99 for the Standard edition. A car you can photograph on a Florida street on October 16 is therefore the same car some players will only be able to drive if they paid $20 more.

One identification is already wrong

The two English reports do not agree on the police car. Rockstar Actu calls it a Pegassi Tempesta, the Huracán-based supercar; News9Live describes the same Lamborghini as resembling the "Pegassi Ignus Pursuit" seen in GTA Online. Both are Huracán-derived police cars in the series, so the cars look alike — but only one name can match the game's final vehicle list, and neither outlet has production credits. Treat the six "in-game names" as fan identifications until Rockstar publishes its own.

2013 versus 2026: one car given away, six left in the street

Rockstar has built a real car before. For Grand Theft Auto V, the studio and West Coast Customs produced a "screen-accurate reproduction" of the Bravado Banshee, fitted over a used 2013 vehicle — GTA Wiki records the base as a modified 2006 Dodge Viper SRT-10. GameStop gave it away through PowerUp Rewards between September 1 and 30, 2013, ending sixteen days before the game's September 17 launch, with a prize valued at $180,000 plus a $70,000 cheque. The winner, 56-year-old Cheri Parker of North Carolina, sold the car on eBay in 2014.

The 2026 version is a different instrument. Instead of one car handed to one winner, up to six are left in public with Leonida plates, where anyone can photograph them — a campaign built for social feeds rather than sweepstakes rules. The open question is who paid for it. Miami-Dade Commissioner Rene Garcia said during the county's marketing debate that Rockstar is spending "at least $150 million" on GTA VI promotion, while questioning why the county settled for a deal worth under $1 million; TwistedVoxel reports the contested figure was a $975,000 agreement for the Kaseya Center sign.

GTA VI launches November 19, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
