What actually leaked
On September 9, images of a large black box branded "Vice City: Leonida", with the GTA 6 logo on its side, began circulating on X. They were posted by an account claiming to be a short-term packaging worker at Unique Services Group, a Mexican company that specialises in graphics, printing and packaging. According to the poster, the box is larger than a PlayStation 5 box, contains several internal compartments, and features a "circular piece" that, in his own words, could be a slot for a disc (GTA BOOM, Beebom).
The photos have since been deleted — the poster said he feared legal action from Take-Two or Rockstar — and no outlet has been able to verify them. Rockstar itself has said nothing (GTA BOOM).
Why a collector's edition would matter
The leak lands on a raw nerve. Since preorders opened in late June, Rockstar has announced exactly two editions of GTA VI: the $79.99 Standard and the $99.99 Ultimate, the latter adding in-game digital content rather than a physical collectible. Crucially, the "physical" version is a code in a box with no disc — a decision that has disappointed buyers who value physical media or keepsakes (Notebookcheck).
That gap is precisely what fuelled the rumour: Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick had promised the game would launch with a "big physical component", a phrase that never quite matched the disc-less SKUs actually put on sale (Notebookcheck).
The Red Dead Redemption 2 precedent
If a Collector's Edition is real, Rockstar has a blueprint to follow — and a warning. In 2018, the studio sold a Red Dead Redemption 2 Collector's Box packed with memorabilia: a metal lockbox, a coin, a puzzle and a treasure map. It contained neither a disc nor a digital code. Fans have spent months asking for the GTA VI equivalent, starting petitions and even suing over the lack of a true physical edition, as GTA BOOM has documented (GTA BOOM).
If a disc really were locked behind a Collector's Edition, the reaction would likely be worse, not better: Beebom notes that fans already resented in-game content being tied to the Ultimate Edition, and putting the only physical disc behind a premium box would read as a second paywall (Beebom).

The obvious caveats stand. A large branded box from a print shop could just as easily be a press kit, an influencer package, a marketing mock-up, or something entirely unrelated. Nobody with real sourcing has authenticated the images, the original post is gone, and Rockstar has announced no third edition — even after the Netflix Extended Look, which would have been the natural place to reveal one (GTA BOOM).
What the episode does confirm is the appetite: thousands of players are actively hunting for a Collector's Edition that does not officially exist, and any box-shaped rumour is enough to dominate the conversation for a day. Until Rockstar announces something, the honest answer remains the same — Standard and Ultimate are the only editions, and neither ships with a disc.
