GTA 6: TGG's three-hour preview spills a wave of new details — criminal profile, phone apps and a smarter police

A three-hour session, a flood of details

The Extended Look may have aired on Netflix, but Rockstar's preview campaign was far from over. Australian YouTuber TGG (The Gaming Gorilla), one of the creators invited to a private hands-off session at Rockstar North, has been publishing videos and livestreams since Thursday evening, and the amount of new information is remarkable (Rockstar Mag). TGG says he spent about three hours watching the game — and what he described goes well beyond the 26 minutes of footage shown publicly. As with everything said in these previews, none of it is officially confirmed by Rockstar.

A "criminal profile" instead of a morality bar

One of the most striking systems is the replacement of a simple honor bar with a "criminal profile" visible in the pause menu. Instead of the RDR 2-style meter, players get a dedicated tab showing the profile of both protagonists — and their relationship level. According to TGG, the profile improves by being a "good criminal": clean robberies and good deeds raise it. The relationship between Jason and Lucia is tied to smaller moments too: sending messages, organizing dates, working out together or holding hands in public all increase their bond.

A HUD that adapts to you

The HUD is said to be highly customizable. During the session it was shown in a clean "standard mode": pressing down on the D-pad brings up the full display (health, stamina, money). The minimap disappears automatically when on foot, can be toggled in the options, and can even be swapped for a compass like in RDR 2. Players can quickly drop waypoints by opening a list of points of interest and pressing R3. Three bars sit top-left — health (with a temporary bonus segment from consumables), Focus (a Dead Eye-like ability that reveals weak points on humans and vehicles, plus valuable items during a jewelry heist) and stamina. All three can be permanently upgraded through sport, shooting practice and other activities.

Money, in three forms

Top-right, TGG describes three types of money: bank account, cash on hand, and the contents of a bag when one is equipped. Cash can be lost on death, so players will want to deposit it. Stolen goods (jewelry, drugs) can only be sold to a fence.

A smarter, more tactical police

The wanted system gets a full rework, according to TGG. The police no longer appear on the minimap — a blue directional indicator points toward them, and Focus reveals officers through walls. Stars are now transparent (police alerted but don't know who to look for), white (direct visual), blinking (lost sight) or red (almost shaken off). Six stars return and are hard to reach: at that level, police search the entire map. A witness must actually see a crime for stars to appear, shop alarms and vehicle trackers can also alert the police, and officers now aim for your tires. Changing clothes and vehicles quickly becomes essential, and splitting up the duo can throw pursuers off.

A phone full of apps

TGG also described the phone as a real gameplay element, with the camera zooming in on it rather than a HUD overlay. The apps parody real services: BuckMe (banking), RydeMe (an Uber-like ride-hailing app for fast travel), WhatUp (messaging), Scooter Bros (vehicle delivery) and Waink, which scans cars to show their security type, resale value and the cost to register one in your name. Social networks are scrollable, and spotting a livestreamed event lets you go see it in person.

Activities and a bigger map

Finally, the session reportedly showed gyms requiring a membership, hunting and fishing (fish cannot be kept — you have to release them), pool returning for the first time since GTA 4, fast-food drive-thrus, and the ability to shop in a more advanced version of RDR 2's system. Properties cannot be bought and instead unlock through the story. TGG also caught a glimpse of the pause-map: twice the size of GTA 5, with Vice City itself twice as large as Los Santos and a military base at the end of the Keys — numbers that match what Rockstar later confirmed.

As always with preview chatter, treat these as unconfirmed reports until Rockstar speaks. GTA VI launches on November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
