In an interview with Famitsu translated by GamesRadar+, Rob Nelson, head of development and co-lead of Rockstar North, acknowledged the quality fears that existed before the Extended Look, then dismissed the idea of another slip. "It was our hope that people wouldn't be worried about the quality [after watching the extended look]," he said. "We're really pleased. Also, it will be released on time."
The statement matters because of who makes it: Nelson is not a marketing figure repeating a corporate line, but a developer who has been at the heart of Rockstar North's work. His confidence is echoed at the very top of the company — Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has repeatedly reaffirmed the November 19 date in recent earnings calls and interviews (IT之家).
A history that explains the skepticism
The skepticism is not irrational. GTA 6 has already been delayed twice: the first pushed the game from 2025 to 2026, the second moved the launch six months, from May 26 to November 19 (GamesRadar+). Rockstar's silence before the Netflix broadcast — while Zelnick repeated the date — did little to reassure the most cautious players, and the Cyberleek leaks added another layer of doubt about the game's state of readiness.
The Chinese press picked up the same reassurance, with cnBeta and IT之家 reporting that a Rockstar executive confirmed the game would launch as scheduled and hoped the real gameplay footage would allay quality concerns — a sign the message was heard worldwide (Notebookcheck-CN).
What the Extended Look changed
The key detail in the Famitsu interview is the interviewer's own position: after watching the Extended Look, they told Nelson they no longer had quality concerns — only the date remained in question. That is a significant shift from the pre-reveal atmosphere, when limited official footage left room for doubt about both the game's visuals and its performance. Insider Gaming also notes that Nelson expressed confidence in GTA 6's performance, a sensitive subject after the confirmed 30 FPS target on consoles.
What it means for the launch
With roughly 80 days to go, Rockstar is doing what it rarely does: addressing skepticism directly, with named developers and concrete reassurance rather than silence. The pieces are in place for the biggest launch in entertainment history — record preorders, a Netflix-scale broadcast, and now an official confirmation that November 19 holds. As always, a delay is never impossible until the game is on shelves, but the studio's message is unambiguous this time: the game is done enough to commit, publicly and by name.
