GTA 6's launch trailer is now a TV ad — and the broadcast cut is not the same video
TL;DR

A broadcast cut of the GTA VI launch trailer aired during an NBC NBA game on the night of October 20-21, 2026, six days after the 90-second trailer went live on October 15. Per RockstarINTEL, it lengthens four shots and removes two — the shower kiss and Lucia's ankle tag — with no new footage. GTA VI launches November 19, 2026.

The short answer

Rockstar's 90-second GTA VI launch trailer, published on YouTube on October 15, 2026, is now running as a paid television commercial in the United States — and the broadcast edit is not identical to the online version. RockstarINTEL published a recording of the spot on October 21, 2026, captured during an NBC broadcast of the Philadelphia 76ers against the New York Knicks. GTA VI launches 29 days later, on November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Six differences, two of them deletions

RockstarINTEL's comparison, built from a recording posted by viewer Lorenzo Jordan, lists four shots that run longer on television and two that were cut entirely. The extended material: the clip of Raul Bautista dancing after the first shower scene, the moment Jason nudges Lucia so that she falls near the floor, Jason reaching for a knife while held in a chokehold, and a dancing clip featuring Roxy of Real Dimez.

The two deletions are shorter and easier to miss. In the broadcast version, the kiss between Jason and Lucia in the shower is gone, and so is the brief shot of Lucia's ankle tag. Everything else in the commercial was already in the October 15 upload, per RockstarINTEL, which describes the television cut as "an alternative cut" of the same trailer rather than a new video.

The two deleted shots are the two the press wrote about

That the cut removed those two moments specifically is the part worth pausing on. When the trailer landed on October 15, Eurogamer flagged the shower scene as "seemingly confirming the rumoured sex scenes and likely full nudity", and it was the ankle tag that carried the story: IGN and Vice both read the device as proof that Lucia is out of prison on parole, which is how the trailer explains her first call to Jason.

RockstarINTEL does not give a reason for either edit, and Rockstar has said nothing about a broadcast version. Two readings fit the evidence, and neither is confirmed. The first is standards and practices: a US commercial break inside a primetime NBA game is a different room from an unrated YouTube upload, and a kiss in a shower is the kind of shot an advertiser re-cuts for it. The second is pacing — four shots were lengthened in the same pass, so the edit is not purely subtractive.

No new footage, and that is the actual news

Nothing in the broadcast version is new. Every change RockstarINTEL documents is a lengthening or a removal of material already in the 90 seconds published on October 15, which makes the TV spot a re-edit rather than a reveal. For anyone counting on the campaign to show more of the game before launch, the first week of television advertising has delivered no frame that was not on YouTube six days earlier.

That also closes an ambiguity in the trailer's own timing. Rockstar released its final pre-launch video 35 days out, against 19 days for GTA V's last trailer before September 17, 2013 and 8 days for Red Dead Redemption 2's before October 26, 2018. Putting the same 90 seconds on television extends the life of that one asset instead of adding a fifth video.

Rockstar is buying basketball, and it already owns a night of it

The placement itself is a story. RockstarINTEL frames the TV airing as a shift in channel: the campaign "started with online ads found within social media feeds but now they've gone to a more traditional medium." The buy landed in an NBA game, and Rockstar's own calendar already has one: the Miami HEAT host the Milwaukee Bucks on November 18 as "Vice City", one night before launch, on ESPN (the details of that rebrand).

Two basketball touchpoints land within roughly 48 hours of each other, at the end of a campaign that spent September and October on physical marketing — a rooftop sign, murals, a blimp, cars in the street. Whether Rockstar bought the NBC slot directly or through an agency is not documented, and no spend figure has been published for the television buy.

What the Miami filming turned out not to be

The TV spot also settles a rumour by omission. For several days, filming crews and camera cars around West Coast Customs-built GTA VI replicas convinced parts of the community that Rockstar was shooting a live-action trailer a month from launch. RockstarINTEL reports that Miami filming permits for the past week do not include Rockstar Games, and that the active permit belongs to 305 Films for "Social media for MH Vice" — MH being the Miami HEAT (why the six real cars are still unexplained).

So the campaign's moving-image output is a re-cut of existing footage on television, not a live-action production. RockstarINTEL notes that live-action trailers are "not something Rockstar do for their games compared to other publishers", and the closest precedent runs the other way: in 2013 the studio and West Coast Customs built one screen-accurate Bravado Banshee for GTA V and gave it away through GameStop, rather than filming actors with it.

What is still unknown

Three things stay open. RockstarINTEL's recording is a viewer's capture of one broadcast, so the length of the commercial, its total number of airings and whether other networks receive a different edit are all unverified. No statement from Rockstar or Take-Two explains the two deletions. And no one has established whether a longer television cut exists — the extensions in this one make a longer version plausible, but plausible is not documented.

One measurable consequence is already in place: the trailer's footage now has a second audience, one that does not click a YouTube link. GTA VI launches November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with the PC version still undated.
